I’m so excited to be sharing this post with you today because off the bat, this was entirely the best vacation I’ve ever had. In today’s post I will be sharing what to do in the Florida Keys. Where we stayed, what we did, and where we ate while on our honeymoon in the Florida Keys.
What To Do In The Florida Keys: Florida Keys Honeymoon Itinerary
Where We Stayed:
We chose to stay in Islamorada for it’s more laid back vibe, and loved that it’s the main Key with all of the resorts with beaches.
During our honeymoon in the Florida Keys, we stayed at The Islander Resort. It was everything we could have asked for: Tropical, quaint, serene, and oceanfront. We stayed in a King Oceanfront Suite, and honestly, it would truly be the only room I recommend. There was nothing quite like walking out of your hotel room onto the sand and right on the beach with a 24/7 ocean view.
The rooms were cottage style with a bungalow feel and each came equipped with their own walk out screened in porch and patio with a dining table outside and lounge chairs. There were also vaulted ceilings, a large closet wardrobe, kitchenette, and luxurious bathrooms.
It was relaxing, yet had many activities to do around the resort like oversized yard games, and water-sports that came free with your stay for an hour a day. Or you could head over to the 2 beachfront pools, eat lunch at the bar or drink the day away.
Dozens of lounge chairs are spread across the manmade beach, and my favorite part that there was almost never more than 10 people on the beach at a time. You can also upgrade from the free lounge chairs, to renting one of the cabanas for the day. I loved relaxing on these at night.
Where We Ate:
Islamorada Fish Company- Definitely the coolest atmosphere at a restaurant I’ve ever been to. Completely bayfront with live music on the beach, and you eat on covered decks/docks. Loved all the tiki torches and beach chairs to sit in while you wait.
Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana Bar- Waterfront dining on the bay in the sand. Very casual resin chairs and tables with umbrellas, but I loved the live music, and the boats coming in at the dock. Also can’t beat $3 margaritas for happy hour!
Lazy Days- This was by far one of our favorites. The atmosphere may not have been as “lively” as the others, but it definitely had the best oceanfront view, and food by far. It was a 2 story indoor/outdoor deck with some tables in the sand as well. We had the best crab cake ever for an appetizer with Key Lime Butter, and the entrees were to die for.
Captain Craig’s- The best fish sandwich in all of the Keys in Tavernier. It’s a tiny little mom and pop sit down on the highway, but it was also one of our favorites. Every single item we had off the menu was pure perfection. Don’t underestimate the outside.
Margaritaville- The famous Margaritaville in Key West. Highly recommend their nachos, and of course margaritas!
Sloppy Joe’s- Where the famous sloppy joe sandwich originated from. Had a very cool open walls atmosphere on the corner of Duval Street. The sandwich was very flavorful.
Tower of Pizza- A great fix if you have the craving for Pizza like we were! Small mom and pop sandwich shop with just about everything.
Keys Bite- Definitely the best breakfast I’ve ever had.It’s not often a restaurant serves breakfast skillets, and when they do, that’s my go to. I had the Southern Skillet which consisted of a layer of hashbrowns, sausage gravy, American cheese, two eggs and toast. I also had a side of chocolate chip pancakes.
Elements Lounge & Restaurant- One of restaurants at our resort.The date night patio-like atmosphere was wonderful. We ate breakfast here one morning, and just loved the calm, serene, tropical space.

What We Did:
– For the most part we enjoyed our days by the pool and beach at the resort. We loved the idea of the relaxing view of the beach and water on lounge chairs, and cooling off for a dip in the pool after.
– I think one of my favorite parts about the Florida Keys was picking up and taking off in our rental car whenever we felt like it, and just driving. We did this a few times during the week where we would just drive up and down the coastline exploring neighborhoods, shops, and enjoying the sites from bridges. I saw some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen during some of those drives.
– One of our days we ventured down to Key West and drove over the famous 7 Mile Bridge. During our brief stay in Key West, our excursions were kindly hosted by The Florida Keys & Key West tourism.
Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory:
Delicate butterflies flutter about among flourishing plants and tropical flowers. You may even have one land on your shoulder. There are hundreds of butterflies of every size, shape and color flying around in a walk in tropical haven.
Barefoot Billy’s Island Jet Ski Tour:
Aguided tour that cruises about 26 miles around the whole island. Along the way there are five stops that will teach you about the area and a little bit of the local history of Key West, Florida. There was even some free time play, and the tour guides were so wonderful and helpful!
Enjoy a nice boat ride out into the Gulf of Mexico, while enjoying the island views. Key West, Florida is a really great place to parasail with its gentle, warm winds and clear Caribbean waters. From high in the sky, you can see the entire island and gain a whole new perspective on island living. As a plus, our tour guides were super funny, and played really awesome 80’s music!
– We utilized the oversized yard games that were nearby our room on the beach. We played Connect Four, and I even kicked Nick’s butt in some shuffleboard 😉
-While in Key West we also visited the famous Duval Street for the margaritas, beer, food, and shops, as well as Mallory Square for performances and street shows.
– We really loved riding bikes around the island. It was calm, breezy, and made us feel more like locals. You can rent bikes from shops, or rent them from your resort if it’s an activity they offer.
– Islamorada also had a ton of really great mom and pop shops with home decor, souvenirs, and home made items. There were a few times we went to some shops and bought t-shirts, looked at beach decor, keychains and souvenirs for family. They were all very fun to explore.

It was extremely relaxing, and they have so much to offer in terms, of entertainment, shopping, water sports, fishing and more.
